Weekly summary 
We had a woman from Serwin Willims come and speak to us this week. Her presentation was very informative this week. It was mostly about the history of color and color across nations. Here are some things I learned:
Colors throughout American History
  • 19th Century
    • purples, browns, mauve
  • Roaring 20s
    • oranges, blues, black, beige, and white 
  • Great Depression
    • muted hues, white and grey color families
  • 1940s
    • brighter colors- dies became more popular, reds, plums 
  • 50s 
    • turquoise, blue, green, yellow, colorful plastics 
  • 60s 
    • explosion of colors, rainbow, blue, yellows 
  • 70s
    • gold, earth tones, pecan, brown, beige, red, orange 
  • the Millenium 
    • bold colors, red, yellow, light blue
  • 2008+ the housing crisis
    • neutrals became popular, and greys were consistent and easy to decorate around
  • 2020
    • houses became important, wanted zen feelings, clam colors, tans and off whites, greens, earthy colors

Reading notes 
Chapter 5 sketching interiors
  • Perception of space means how to perceive an object in space 
  • one of the skills is to be able to perceive angels relative to horizontal plans 
  • another skill is seeing proportions relative to each other in the space.
  • different ways to lay out a perspective
    • freehand
    • estimating method 
    • the common method 
  • the common method used is floor plans and elevations to make it accurate. 
  • Different terms to note are: Horizontal line, Vanishing point, picture plan, Ground line, cone of vision, different views
  • one point perspective is when the viewer is parallel the the wall
  •  two-point perspective is when the viewer is in front of the angle 
  • three-point perspective is there are 3 vanishing points. most common in tall buildings
  • proportion is very important to perspective drawings.  
  • many times artists use their pencils to measure things
