We talked about balance and Harmony.
Balance is critical to feel a sense of equilibrium in a space. Balance is about achieving visual weight by strategic placement of objects as well as through lines, shapes, colors, and textures. There are three different types of balance, they are, symmetrical, asymmetrical, and radial.
Symetrial or Formal balnce
- typically require symmetrical balance
- Symmetrical balance is easy
- it is where there is an axis and one side of the axis is the same as the other
- This balance can be static or boring
Aysomtical or Informal Balance
- Blcne without exact duplication
- This balance is Interesting and dynamic
- This is a more difficult balance to make look good
Radial Balance
- goes out in a circle
- good for commercial spaces
- this is a youthful and interesting way to balance things
Harmony and Unity are very important to design. Unity is every space flowing together and becoming an integrated whole. Each part such as furnishings, style, and decor must to together. Harmony is created through a common theme or style. Elements that produce harmony could be color, texture, or even focal points. when there is unity and harmony in a design the space feels safe and inviting. Here is a great example of a room that uses both of these
Reading Notes
Chapter 6 Sketching Interiors
Chapter 6 explained to us how essential it is to learn how to draw textures. Learning to draw textures elevates your drawing and gives it more detail as well as explains materials in the interiors. The chapter gave many examples and demonstrations on how to draw things like brick, roofs, openings, landscape objects, and many other helpful things.
